Cycles. Every up-down opening = 1 cycle. Standard springs are rated for ~10,000 cycles (about 7 years for a typical family). Cold snaps, humidity, and a single tug from a stuck door can accelerate it. We install 20,000-cycle springs as our standard — double the lifespan, same install cost.

We’ll always quote single-spring if you insist, but every Mo Better tech will tell you the same thing: do the pair.
Can I just replace the spring myself?
We don’t recommend it. A torsion spring stores enough energy to break a wrist or take out an eye when it slips during installation. The actual work needs winding bars, a calibrated torque measurement, and matched-pair sizing to the door weight. Wrong-sized spring overstresses the opener and shortens its life. Our techs do this every day — let us handle it.
Is there a warranty on the new springs?
Yes. Our matched-pair spring installs come with a lifetime parts warranty as long as you own the home. If a Mo Better-installed spring breaks early, we replace the matched pair free — parts and labor on us. (Single-spring jobs get a 1-year warranty, which is part of why we push matched-pair so hard.)
